Teaching Philosophy

I believe that art is anything that an artist wants it to be. I have always loved art and creating art but I have often been discouraged by teachers who had very high expectations for my art. Those classes with rigid educators  quickly became stressful and difficult. I never want to be that kind of teacher.

I did have a professor who showed me that art isn’t always what we expect it to be. She introduced me to new mediums and exciting artist that I had never heard of.

I had a fun, exciting, and eye-opening experience. That is the kind of art teacher that I aspire to be.

I believe that art should be fun!

I want to encourage students to love art, to create and work hard to follow their dreams whether those dreams involve an art career or not. I want to show my students that art is not just paintings, drawings, and sculptures that we see in museums. I want my students to know that art is everywhere and that art and artists are needed and wanted in all the places they least expect.

I think that art educators have the power to take students out of the textbook and away from the math to give them a break to explore, create and innovate. Art educators should think outside the paper, canvas and picture. I believe that we have the power to spark something new in our students.

I believe that so much could be achieved through art; we can bring communities together, heal ourselves and others emotionally and make a change through art and I want to share this with today’s youth.

I want to show students that art is fun and that we are all creative and capable of being artists.
